Sukta 161

Mantra 1

मुञ्चामि त्वा हविषा जीवनाय कमज्ञातयक्ष्मादुत राजयक्ष्मात् । ग्राहिर्जग्राह यदि वैतदेनं तस्या इन्द्राग्नी प्र मुमुक्तमेनम् ॥

With the offering-power I release you for life—from the unknown wasting sickness and from the royal consuming sickness. If the Seizer has seized him in this way, then from that grasp, O Indra-Agni, completely set him free.

Mantra 2

यदि क्षितायुर्यदि वा परेतो यदि मृत्योरन्तिकं नीत एव । तमा हरामि निॠतेरुपस्थादस्पार्षमेनं शतशारदाय ॥

If his appointed life is spent, or if he has gone beyond, or if he has been led close to Death—still I bring him back from the lap of Nirṛti. I restore him untouched, for a hundred autumns (a full span of life).

Mantra 3

सहस्राक्षेण शतशारदेन शतायुषा हविषाहार्षमेनम् । शतं यथेमं शरदो नयातीन्द्रो विश्वस्य दुरितस्य पारम् ॥

With the thousand-eyed power (wide vision), with a hundred autumns of ripening, with a hundredfold life-force, by the offering of aspiration I have brought him here—so that Indra may lead this being through a hundred seasons, beyond the far shore of all distress and wrong movement.

Mantra 4

शतं जीव शरदो वर्धमानः शतं हेमन्ताञ्छतमु वसन्तान् । शतमिन्द्राग्नी सविता बृहस्पतिः शतायुषा हविषेमं पुनर्दुः ॥

Live a hundred autumns, growing ever in increase; a hundred winters, and a hundred springs. Let Indra-Agni, Savitṛ, and Bṛhaspati restore him again and again by the oblation of a hundredfold life—renewing the course of his being.

Mantra 5

आहार्षं त्वाविदं त्वा पुनरागाः पुनर्नव । सर्वाङ्ग सर्वं ते चक्षुः सर्वमायुश्च तेऽविदम् ॥

I have brought you back; I have found you again. Return anew, ever new. Whole in every limb—may all your seeing be restored, and all your life-force; all this I have recovered for you.
