Sukta 147

Mantra 1

श्रत्ते दधामि प्रथमाय मन्यवेऽहन्यद्वृत्रं नर्यं विवेरपः । उभे यत्त्वा भवतो रोदसी अनु रेजते शुष्मात्पृथिवी चिदद्रिवः ॥

I set my trust in your first-born wrath-power: when you struck Vṛtra, the man-confronting coverer, you opened out the waters. When you are in action, both Heaven and Earth tremble after you; even Earth quivers from your force, O wielder of the stone.

Mantra 2

त्वं मायाभिरनवद्य मायिनं श्रवस्यता मनसा वृत्रमर्दयः । त्वामिन्नरो वृणते गविष्टिषु त्वां विश्वासु हव्यास्विष्टिषु ॥

You, flawless one, with your powers of formation smote the cunning wielder of formations, Vṛtra, by a mind that seeks the glory. Men choose you in the battles for the Light; they choose you in all offerings and acts of sacrifice.

Mantra 3

ऐषु चाकन्धि पुरुहूत सूरिषु वृधासो ये मघवन्नानशुर्मघम् । अर्चन्ति तोके तनये परिष्टिषु मेधसाता वाजिनमह्रये धने ॥

Be attentive among these bountiful patrons, O much-invoked Maghavan—those who have reached your largeness of giving. They sing in their offspring and lineage, in their encircling protections; winners of inspired intelligence, they call the plenitude of force, the unseizable wealth.

Mantra 4

स इन्नु रायः सुभृतस्य चाकनन्मदं यो अस्य रंह्यं चिकेतति । त्वावृधो मघवन्दाश्वध्वरो मक्षू स वाजं भरते धना नृभिः ॥

He indeed now delights in the ecstasy of the well-sustained plenitude (rāyaḥ), who perceives its swift-moving power. O Maghavan, the sacrificer whose offering increases thee quickly brings the Vāja—plenitude of force—and the riches, with the help of the heroic powers within (nṛbhiḥ).

Mantra 5

त्वं शर्धाय महिना गृणान उरु कृधि मघवञ्छग्धि रायः । त्वं नो मित्रो वरुणो न मायी पित्वो न दस्म दयसे विभक्ता ॥

O Maghavan, praised with thy greatness for our company, widen our field and grant us the plenitude. For us thou becomest like Mitra and Varuṇa—wise in power of ordering, not a deceiver; like a generous father, O wonderful one, thou compassionately apportionest the shares.
