Sukta 183

Mantra 1

तं युञ्जाथां मनसो यो जवीयान्त्रिवन्धुरो वृषणा यस्त्रिचक्रः । येनोपयाथः सुकृतो दुरोणं त्रिधातुना पतथो विर्न पर्णैः ॥

Yoke that chariot of yours, O strong ones, swifter than mind, three-seated, three-wheeled—by which you come to the well-built home; with its triple foundation you fly apart like birds with wings.

Mantra 2

सुवृद्रथो वर्तते यन्नभि क्षां यत्तिष्ठथः क्रतुमन्तानु पृक्षे । वपुर्वपुष्या सचतामियं गीर्दिवो दुहित्रोषसा सचेथे ॥

Your well-turning chariot moves over the earth; when you take your stand, you two of will follow the sprinkling and the increase. Let this hymn join you in your beauty—O Dawn, daughter of Heaven, you too accompany them.

Mantra 3

आ तिष्ठतं सुवृतं यो रथो वामनु व्रतानि वर्तते हविष्मान् । येन नरा नासत्येषयध्यै वर्तिर्याथस्तनयाय त्मने च ॥

Mount the well-guided chariot that follows your laws, rich with the offering-force. By it, O heroes, O Nāsatyas, you go to awaken the impulsion—bringing the turning path for the child of the being and for the inner self.

Mantra 4

मा वां वृको मा वृकीरा दधर्षीन्मा परि वर्क्तमुत माति धक्तम् । अयं वां भागो निहित इयं गीर्दस्राविमे वां निधयो मधूनाम् ॥

Let not the wolf, nor the she-wolves assail you; let none encompass you, nor overtake and burn you. Here is your portion laid down; here is the hymn—O wondrous ones—these are your stored treasures of sweetness.

Mantra 5

युवां गोतमः पुरुमीळ्हो अत्रिर्दस्रा हवतेऽवसे हविष्मान् । दिशं न दिष्टामृजूयेव यन्ता मे हवं नासत्योप यातम् ॥

You two are called by Gotama, by Atri the much-praised—O wondrous ones—for help with the offering-force. Come to my call as one goes straight to a pointed direction; O Nāsatyas, draw near.

Mantra 6

अतारिष्म तमसस्पारमस्य प्रति वां स्तोमो अश्विनावधायि । एह यातं पथिभिर्देवयानैर्विद्यामेषं वृजनं जीरदानुम् ॥

We have crossed beyond this darkness to its farther shore; in response, a hymn of affirmation is set in you, O Aśvins. Come here by the god-traveling paths, that we may find the impulsion of plenitude, the clearing of obstruction, and the swift-giving power.
