Sukta 6

Mantra 1

इन्द्र त्वा वृषभं वयं सुते सोमे हवामहे । स पाहि मध्वो अन्धसः

Indra, thee—the Bull—do we invoke at the Soma’s pressing. Do thou, being such, protect (us) by the sweet plant-essence.

Mantra 2

इन्द्र क्रतुविदं सुतं सोमं हर्य पुरुष्टुत । पिबा वृषस्व तातृपिम्

Indra, knower of resolve, drink the pressed Soma—O Tawny One, much praised; drink, and wax in might unto full satisfaction.

Mantra 3

इन्द्र प्र णो धितावानं यज्ञं विश्वेभिर्देवेभिः। तिर स्तवान विश्पते

Indra, set thou forward for us the sacrifice well-ordered, with all the Gods; overpassing (all hindrance) by thy praise, O Lord of the folk.

Mantra 4

इन्द्र सोमाः सुता इमे तव प्र यन्ति सत्पते । क्षयं चन्द्रास इन्दवः

Indra, these Soma-drops, pressed for thee, go forth to thee, O Lord of the good; the brightening drops (bring) a settled home.

Mantra 5

दधिष्वा जठरे सुतं सोममिन्द्र वरेण्यम्। तव द्युक्षास इन्दवः

Set thou within thy belly the pressed Soma, Indra, the choice (draught): thine are the heaven-bright drops.

Mantra 6

गिर्वणः पाहि नः सुतं मधोर्धाराभिरज्यसे । इन्द्र त्वादातमिद् यशः

O hymn-delighting (Indra), protect us: thou art bedewed with streams of the pressed sweet (draught). Indra, the glory is verily a gift from thee.

Mantra 7

अभि द्युम्नानि वनिन इन्द्रं सचन्ते अक्षिता । पीत्वी सोमस्य वावृधे

Untiring splendours, prize-winning, gather close about Indra, imperishable: having drunk of Soma he hath waxed in might.

Mantra 8

अर्वावतो न आ गहि परावतश्च वृत्रहन्। इमा जुषस्व नो गिरः

From the nearer quarter come thou hither unto us, and from the far, O Vṛtra-slayer: accept with favour these our uttered strains.

Mantra 9

यदन्तरा परावतमर्वावतं च हूयसे । इन्द्रेह तत आ गहि

When thou art invoked from the far quarter and the near, and from the space between, then, O Indra, come thou hither here.
