Mantras

Mantra 1

Fearlessness. From what, O Indra, we are afraid, from that do thou make us fearless. O bounteous one, smite: do thou, with thy succours for us, scatter the haters; scatter and slay the assaults.

Mantra 2

Indra, the furtherer of success, we call upon: may we attain success—both two-footed and four-footed. Let no raging army, heavy and scattering its shafts, come near us. O Indra, make the treacheries perish away.

Mantra 3

Indra is saviour, yea Vṛtra-slayer, the crusher, the choice-worthy. Let him be our guardian from the farthest bound, from the midst; let him be from behind, let him be before us.

Mantra 4

A wide realm do thou, the wise one, lead us on unto—heaven-reaching light, fearlessness, and welfare. Formidable, O Indra, are the arms of thee the steadfast: under them may we dwell, as under great shelters.

Mantra 5

Let the mid-air work fearlessness for us; let Heaven and Earth, these twain, be fearlessness. Fearlessness behind, fearlessness in front; from the north and from below—let fearlessness be ours.

Mantra 6

Fearlessness from friend, fearlessness from foe; fearlessness from kinsman, fearlessness from whoever is before us. Fearlessness by night, fearlessness by day: let all the quarters for me become friendly.

Frequently Asked Questions

To obtain abhayam (fearlessness) by invoking Indra to disperse hostility, stop assaults, and establish welfare and safety in every direction and at all times.

No specific substances are mentioned in the hymn. It functions effectively as a recitational rakṣā (protective) charm, though simple cleanliness and focused intention are recommended.

Because danger and anxiety can arise from uncertain intentions, social pressure, or conflict even among close relations. The mantra seeks a world where every contact and every quarter becomes ‘mitra’—friendly and non-threatening.
