dṛṣṭvāṃdhānkṛpaṇānvyaṃgānanāthānrogiṇastathā | dayā na jāyate yasya sa rakṣa iti me matiḥ
„Wenn einer Blinde, Elende, Versehrte, Schutzlose und Kranke sieht und in ihm kein Mitgefühl aufsteigt, so ist er, wie ich meine, ein Rākṣasa.“
Unnamed ṛṣi (contextual speaker within the narrative; later Śiva speaks at v.24)
Tirtha: Prabhāsa-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Pilgrim-audience (implied)
Scene: A pilgrim at Prabhāsa encounters a line of sufferers—blind with staff, a crippled person, an orphan child, and a fevered patient—while a narrator-figure declares that compassionless hearts are demonic.
Compassion is the hallmark of dharma; lack of empathy toward the helpless is branded as demonic cruelty.
The teaching is embedded in Prabhāsakṣetra-māhātmya, presenting Prabhāsa as a field of ethical refinement.
No explicit ritual; the implied dharma is dāna and practical care (seva) for vulnerable people.
