The Exposition of the Maheśa Mantra
Mahēśa-mantra-prakāśana
ऋषिश्छन्दः पुरा प्रोक्तो देवता स्यादुमापतिः । अंगानि पूर्वमुक्तानि सौम्यमीशं विचिंतयेत् ॥ ३६ ॥
ṛṣiśchandaḥ purā prokto devatā syādumāpatiḥ | aṃgāni pūrvamuktāni saumyamīśaṃ viciṃtayet || 36 ||
先前已说明此咒的仙人(ṛṣi)与韵律(chandas);此处的主尊为乌玛之主(Umāpati,湿婆)。依前所教完成诸支分(aṅga)之后,当观想那温和而吉祥的主宰。

It formalizes mantra-practice by naming the mantra’s ritual identifiers (ṛṣi, chandas, devatā) and then directs the practitioner to culminate the procedure in contemplative meditation on the Lord’s auspicious, gentle form.
Even within technical ritual structure, the verse emphasizes inner devotion through dhyāna—after completing the prescribed aṅgas, one turns the mind toward Īśa as the object of loving contemplation.
It highlights mantra-application conventions—especially the standard triad of ṛṣi–chandas–devatā and the performance of aṅgas (auxiliary ritual steps like nyāsa) prior to meditation.
