Inquiry into the Expansion of Śiva’s Vibhūti
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: nurturing
It teaches that steadiness in daily dharma, joined with humble attentiveness to the Lord’s presence, prepares the devotee (paśu) to receive the grace of Pati (Shiva), loosening the bonds (pāśa) through right conduct and devotion.
The verse reflects the devotional posture central to Saguna Shiva worship—after completing prescribed observances, devotees sit in respectful attendance, as one would before the Shiva-linga or before the Lord’s manifested presence, ready for darśana and instruction.
Maintain daily nitya-karma and then sit in quiet reverence for Shiva’s darśana—ideally after applying tripuṇḍra (bhasma), wearing rudrākṣa, and repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” in a composed, seated posture.
