Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: General prayoga-bheda: for śāntika and pauṣṭika aims, meditate on Śambhu’s saumya form; for krūra rites (māraṇa etc.), employ iron implements (sruk/sruva), indicating rite-appropriate dravya and upakaraṇa.
Significance: Encodes ethical-ritual containment: even when fierce rites are mentioned, the text emphasizes correct form, correct implements, and controlled procedure—Śiva as regulator of all karmic operations.
Shakti Form: Gaurī
Role: nurturing
It teaches that the worshipper’s contemplation (dhyāna) and ritual implements should match the intended spiritual aim: gentle meditation on Shiva for peace and flourishing, and fiercer ritual conventions for forceful acts—highlighting disciplined, intention-aligned worship under Shiva’s lordship (Pati).
It emphasizes Saguna upāsanā—meditating on Shiva with a specific quality/form (saumya) when seeking śānti and puṣṭi. In Linga worship too, the same Lord is approached through appropriate bhāva (inner disposition) and dhyāna suited to the rite.
Meditate on Śambhu’s gentle, auspicious form for pacificatory and prosperity rites; for fierce operations (māraṇa etc.), employ iron ladle and spoon in the offering—indicating a deliberate adjustment of both dhyāna and ritual equipment to the karma being performed.
