नरस्त्रीबालवृद्धेषु दह्यमानेषु सर्वतः । निर्दयं ज्वलते वह्निर्हाहाकारो महानभूत् । काचिच्च सुखसंसुप्ताप्रमत्तान्या नृपोत्तम
narastrībālavṛddheṣu dahyamāneṣu sarvataḥ | nirdayaṃ jvalate vahnirhāhākāro mahānabhūt | kācicca sukhasaṃsuptāpramattānyā nṛpottama
ஆண்கள், பெண்கள், குழந்தைகள், முதியோர் என எல்லாத் திசைகளிலும் எரிந்தபோது, தீ இரக்கமின்றி கொழுந்துவிட்டு எரிந்தது; ‘அய்யோ!’ என்ற பெரும் அலறல் எழுந்தது. ஆயினும் சிலர் சுகமாக உறங்கினர்; சிலர் அலட்சியமாக இருந்தனர்—அரசரே।
