ऋषय ऊचुः । जमदग्निर्हतः कस्मात्क्षत्रियेण महामुनिः । किंनामा स च भूपालो विस्तराद्वद सूत तत्
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ | jamadagnirhataḥ kasmātkṣatriyeṇa mahāmuniḥ | kiṃnāmā sa ca bhūpālo vistarādvada sūta tat
Para ṛṣi berkata: “Atas sebab apakah mahāmuni Jamadagni dibunuh oleh seorang kṣatriya? Dan siapakah nama raja itu? Ceritakanlah dengan terperinci, wahai Sūta.”
Ṛṣis (Sages)
Listener: Sūta
Scene: A forest or āśrama assembly: seated sages address Sūta, hands in añjali, asking about Jamadagni’s death and the kṣatriya king’s identity.
It frames dharma as accountable: even royal power must be questioned when it harms a sage, and sacred history should be heard carefully and in full.
The narrative belongs to the Tīrthamāhātmya stream of the Nāgara Khaṇḍa and proceeds toward the Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra setting introduced in the next verse.
None in this verse; it is a request to narrate the sacred account (kathā-śravaṇa).
