Bhartṛyajña (instructor voice within the Śrāddha-kalpa context; explicit speaker appears at 219.1 and is understood to continue this instruction)
Listener: King (nṛpa) in the surrounding discourse
Scene: Two focal figures: the śrāddha sponsor offering food and the brāhmaṇa recipient; above them, pitṛs shown waiting for the subtle essence of offerings; a textual banner-like motif ‘vaidikī śruti’ to emphasize scriptural authority.
Śrāddha demands strict self-restraint; violating purity disciplines harms the intended nourishment of the ancestors.
The teaching occurs within the Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra-māhātmya (Nāgara Khaṇḍa), framing Śrāddha discipline in that sacred geography.
Avoid sexual intercourse for the Śrāddha donor and the Śrāddha recipient; it is presented as a Vedicly grounded restraint.
