न स स्वो दक्षो वरुण ध्रुतिः सा सुरा मन्युर्विभीदको अचित्तिः । अस्ति ज्यायान्कनीयस उपारे स्वप्नश्चनेदनृतस्य प्रयोता ॥

ná sá svó dákṣo váruṇa dhrutíḥ sā́ surā́ mányur vibhī́dako ácittiḥ | ásti jyā́yān kánīyasa upāré svápnaś canéd anṛ́tasya prayotā́ ||

हे वरुणा, तो माझा स्वतःचा स्थिर विवेक नाही, ना दृढ धारण; तो तर मद आहे, भीती उत्पन्न करणारा क्रोध आहे, ती अचित्ती (अविवेक) आहे. ज्येष्ठही कनिष्ठाच्या अवस्थेत घसरू शकतो; आणि झोपसुद्धा अनृत (असत्य) ची प्रेरक ठरते—आपल्यात अशा शक्ती आहेत ज्या इच्छेला ऋतापासून दूर वाकवतात.
