यो वै पि॒न्वन्तं॒ नाम॒र्तुं वेद॑ । पि॒न्व॒तींपि॑न्वतीमे॒वाप्रि॑यस्य॒ भ्रातृ॑व्यस्य॒ श्रिय॒मा द॑त्ते । ए॒ष वै पि॒न्वन्नाम॒र्तुर्यद॒जः पञ्चौ॑दनः । निरे॒वाप्रि॑यस्य॒ भ्रातृ॑व्यस्य॒ श्रियं॑ दहति॒ भव॑त्या॒त्मना॑। यो॒३जं पञ्चौ॑दनं॒ दक्षि॑णाज्योतिषं॒ ददा॑ति
yó vái pinvántaṃ nā́ma ṛtúṃ véda | pinvatī́ṃ pinvatīm evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyam ā́ datte | eṣá vái pinván nā́ma ṛtúr yád ajáḥ pañcáudanáḥ | nír evā́priyasya bhrā́tṛvyasya śríyaṃ dahati bhávāty ātmánā | yó ’jáṃ pañcáudanáṃ dákṣiṇā-jyótiṣaṃ dádāti
Whoso, in sooth, knoweth by name the season called Pinvant, he draweth unto himself—yea, the very Pinvatī— the thriving splendour of the unfriendly rival. This, verily, is the season Pinvant, to wit, the goat with the fivefold rice-porridge. He burneth clean away the rival’s splendour and maketh it his own, even he who bestoweth the goat and the fivefold porridge, made luminous by the priestly fee.
‘പിൻവന്ത്’ എന്ന പേരിലുള്ള ഋതുവിനെ യഥാർത്ഥത്തിൽ അറിയുന്നവൻ, ‘പിൻവതീ’യെയേ തന്നെ തന്റെ ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് ആകർഷിച്ച്, അപ്രിയനായ ശത്രു-പ്രതിസ്പർധി (ഭ്രാതൃവ്യ) യുടെ ശ്രീ-സമ്പത്തിനെ തന്റെ കൈവശമാക്കുന്നു. ‘പിൻവന്ത്’ എന്ന ഋതു ഇതുതന്നെ—അജം (ആട്) കൂടെ അഞ്ചുവിധ അന്നപായസം (പഞ്ചൗദന) എന്ന യാഗോപചാരം. അവൻ അപ്രിയ ഭ്രാതൃവ്യയുടെ ശ്രീയെ പൂർണ്ണമായി ദഹിപ്പിച്ച്, തന്റെ ആത്മശക്തിയാൽ അതിനെ സ്വന്തമാക്കുന്നു—ദക്ഷിണാജ്യോതിഷ് വിധിപ്രകാരം അജ-പഞ്ചൗദനം ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ.
