Sukta 5

Mantra 1

राष्ट्रस्य राजा राजकृतश्च / आयमगन् पर्णमणिर्बली बलेन प्रमृणन्त्सपत्नान्। ओजो देवानां पय ओषधीनां वर्चसा मा जिन्वत्वप्रयावन्

King of the realm, and king-maker too—hither hath come this Leaf-amulet, strong; with strength it crusheth down the rivals. With the vigor of the Gods, with the milk of the plants, with splendour, let it quicken me—unfailing, never departing.

Mantra 2

मयि क्षत्रं पर्णमणे मयि धारयताद् रयिम्। अहं राष्ट्रस्याभीवर्गे निजो भूयासमुत्तमः

In me, O Parṇamaṇi, set thou royal might; in me uphold thou wealth. In the realm’s contention and concourse may I, as one rightful, become the highest.

Mantra 3

यं निदधुर्वनस्पतौ गुह्यं देवाः प्रियं मणिम्। तमस्मभ्यं सहायुषा देवा ददतु भर्तवे

The dear, secret amulet which the Gods deposited in the lord of the forest—let the Gods bestow that upon us, with life therewith, to be borne upon the person.

Mantra 4

सोमस्य पर्णः सह उग्रमागन्निन्द्रेण दत्तो वरुणेन शिष्टः । तं प्रियासं बहु रोचमानो दीर्घायुत्वाय शतशारदाय

Soma’s leaf, with potent might, hath come—bestowed by Indra, ordered by Varuṇa. That dear one, shining forth with manifold splendour, is for long life, for a hundred autumns.

Mantra 5

आ मारुक्षत् पर्णमणिर्मह्या अरिष्टतातये । यथाहमुत्तरोऽसान्यर्यम्ण उत संविदः

Hither hath the Parṇamaṇi mounted for me, for safety from all hurt; that I may be the higher—higher in Aryaman’s fellowship, and in compacts and agreements.

Mantra 6

ये धीवानो रथकाराः कर्मारा ये मनीषिणः । उपस्तीन् पर्ण मह्यं त्वं सर्वान् कृण्वभितो जनान्

The wise chariot-builders, the smiths, the men of counsel—make thou all these, O Leaf, supports for me; yea, make all people round about my helpers.

Mantra 7

ये राजानो राजकृतः सूता ग्रामण्यऽश्च ये। उपस्तीन् पर्ण मह्यं त्वं सर्वान् कृण्वभितो जनान्

Ye Kings, and ye whom Kings have constituted—Sūtas and village-heads, and all that stand attendant—O Leaf, do thou, for me, make all the people round about (my side).

Mantra 8

पर्णोऽसि तनूपानः सयोनिर्वीरो वीरेण मया । संवत्सरस्य तेजसा तेन बध्नामि त्वा मणे

Thou art a Leaf, a guardian of the body, well-born, a hero: with a hero—myself—by the Year’s splendour, with that I bind thee on, O Amulet.
