Loosing of the bond. From the kṣetriya-disease, from Nirṛti, from the kin-accuser’s reproach, from treachery, I release thee; from Varuṇa’s noose. Guiltless I make thee by sacred spell: auspicious for thee be both Heaven and Earth.

Thus do I loose thee from the kṣetriya-plague, from Nirṛti, from the near-kin’s evil imprecation, from treachery; I release thee from Varuṇa’s noose. Guiltless by sacred spell I make thee: for thee may Heaven and Earth, both, stand gracious.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is the noose/fetter by which Varuṇa binds wrongdoing and disorder. In AVŚ 2.10 the practitioner asks for authoritative unbinding, treating illness and misfortune as a constriction that can be ritually released.

No. It addresses bodily affliction (kṣetriya, yakṣma, inner wasting) and also social-moral pressures such as kin-accusation (jāmiśaṃsa) and treachery, ending with a mantra-declaration of innocence (anāgas).

A cord or knot is used as a symbol of the bond. While reciting the repeated release formula, the cord is loosened/untied, and the patient is affirmed as purified by brahman, with Heaven and Earth invoked to stand auspicious.
