Description of the Māhātmya of Gokarṇeśvara and Jaleśvara (Śaileśvara) in the Śleṣmātaka Forest
matpārṣadās te jāyante satataṃ sahitāḥ suraiḥ || śaileśvaraṃ paraṃ guhyaṃ gatiḥ śaileśvaraḥ parā || śaileśvarāt paraṃ kṣetraṃ na kvacid bhuvi vidyate ||
Varāha
It exemplifies the rhetoric of kṣetra-māhātmya texts, where a site is elevated through superlative claims that shape pilgrimage networks and cultural memory.
Śaileśvara-kṣetra is explicitly named as the central sacred geography focus.
Steady devotion to a sacred place is portrayed as leading to elevated status and proximity to the divine retinue, functioning as a motivational ethical framework.
