Ritual-Manual (Pratiṣṭhā and Pūjā Procedure)
In a didactic exchange framed as Varāha’s instruction to Pṛthivī, the chapter outlines a step-by-step ritual protocol for establishing (pratiṣṭhā) a copper icon of the deity. The text prescribes crafting a radiant, well-proportioned image, bringing it to the ritual space, orienting it northward, and performing adhivāsana under an auspicious nakṣatra. It details bathing the icon with water mixed with fragrances and pañcagavya, accompanied by invocation mantras that request the deity’s presence with the pañcabhūtas. After a night interval, purification and renewed bathing are performed at sunrise, with Vedic recitation, maṅgala arrangements in a maṇḍapa, and formal seating and worship. Offerings include garments, incense, lamps, naivedya, and a śānti-pāṭha for social well-being. The chapter emphasizes honoring the guru and feeding brāhmaṇas, promising merit and lineage uplift through correct observance.

Varāha, in instructive dialogue with Pṛthivī, introduces the proper method (vidhi) for establishing and consecrating a copper icon (tāmrārcā) so that worship becomes ritually valid and socially auspicious.
A sequential pratiṣṭhā-manual: fashioning a radiant, proportionate copper image; bringing it into a maṇḍapa/veśman; orienting it northward; performing adhivāsana under an auspicious nakṣatra; bathing with sarvagandha-jala and pañcagavya while invoking the deity to enter the icon together with the pañcabhūtas; keeping a night interval; then renewing purification and worship at sunrise with Vedic recitation, maṅgala arrangements, formal seating (āsana) and full upacāras.
The consecratory moment is stabilized through sunrise re-bathing, mantra-supported invocation, and completion of worship with offerings (vastra, dhūpa, dīpa, naivedya) culminating in a śānti-pāṭha aimed at the welfare of polity and society; the rite is ethically sealed by guru-honoring and feeding brāhmaṇas.
Correct observance yields puṇya, prosperity, and lineage uplift; even the ritual droplets and bathing are framed as merit-generating when performed according to rule, especially when paired with guru-pūjā and brāhmaṇa-bhojana.
No explicit historical sites, river systems, tīrthas, or ecological regions are named in this adhyāya; the setting is a generic veśman/maṇḍapa (ritual house/pavilion) context.
The text frames ritual correctness as inseparable from social responsibility: along with installing and worshiping the icon, it mandates śānti-pāṭha for collective welfare, honors the guru as a decisive moral authority, and requires brāhmaṇa-pūjā and communal feeding. The implied ethic is that religious practice should stabilize social order and well-being, not remain a private act.
The chapter specifies performing adhivāsana under an auspicious nakṣatra (not named), then continuing after the night has passed (vyatītāyāṃ śarvaryām) and at sunrise (udite divākare). It also indicates orientation (udaṅmukha, facing north) as a procedural marker.
Environmental stewardship appears indirectly through pañcabhūta language and purification materials: the deity is invoked to enter the icon ‘with the pañcabhūtas,’ and ritual bathing uses water, fragrances, and pañcagavya—substances that symbolically integrate terrestrial resources into a regulated, non-destructive ritual economy. The śānti-pāṭha extends well-being to the realm (rājan, rāṣṭra) and to vulnerable life (pregnant women, children), suggesting a broad stability ethic aligned with Pṛthivī-centered discourse.
No specific dynasties, kings, sages, or named lineages are mentioned. The chapter references social roles—guru (especially a bhāgavata-guru), brāhmaṇas, and the king/rājñām as a category in the peace recitation—without identifying particular historical persons.
