Description of the Brāhmaṇa Initiation Procedure
Dīkṣā-sūtra
नत्वा तु भगवद्भक्तान् प्रज्वाल्य च हुताशनम् ॥ घृतेन मधुमिश्रेण लाजाकृष्णतिलैस्तथा ॥
natvā tu bhagavadbhaktān prajvālya ca hutāśanam || ghṛtena madhumiśreṇa lājākṛṣṇatilais tathā ||
भगवान के भक्तों को प्रणाम करो। फिर अग्नि जलाओ। घी में शहद मिलाओ, उस्से आहुति दो। और फेंके हुए धान और काला तिल भी डालो।
Varāha (default instructor voice)
After bowing to Bhagavata devotees, kindle the sacred fire and perform homa with specified dravyas: ghee mixed with honey, parched grains (lājā), and black sesame (kṛṣṇa-tila).
Proper materials and sequence support siddhi of the rite and purity of dīkṣā; negligence/impurity diminishes ritual efficacy and merit.
The dīkṣā-homa is framed as a micro-yajña: offerings (āhuti) sustain ṛta/dharma, echoing the Purāṇic idea that Viṣṇu (and Varāha as yajña-mūrti) is the inner recipient of sacrifice.
Fire as mouth of the deity; ghee/honey as soma-like sweetness; tila as purifier/ancestral-linked substance; lājā as auspicious grain—together forming a consecratory ‘body’ of the rite.
Karma-yoga orientation: external offering symbolizes inner surrender; purity of intention and devotion make the act a means of antaḥkaraṇa-śuddhi.
Devotion is enacted through disciplined ritual: reverence to devotees precedes offering; material exactness supports spiritual intention.
Prepare clean dravyas; begin with praṇāma to bhaktas; kindle agni mindfully; offer with steady attention and non-harming speech/thought.
Varāha Purāṇa 127.55 (praṇāma to gurus/bhaktas); Varāha Purāṇa 127.57 (counted offerings and kneeling posture)
The verse lists standard offering substances, helping trace continuity and adaptation between Vedic homa conventions and later Purāṇic ritual handbooks.
No geographic location is stated.
It foregrounds respectful social conduct (bowing to devotees) before ritual action, suggesting that relational ethics accompany technical performance.
