This hymn praises Agni as the swift-born flame in the wild and as Mitra-like Friend among humans—one who harmonizes the community through right hearing and willing obedience to ṛta. It depicts Agni as seeker and guardian of the luminous “herds” hidden in caves, and culminates in a vision of awakened intelligence (citti) established in the dwelling of the Waters, where the wise build concord together.

Mantras

Mantra 1

Mantra 2

Mantra 3

Mantra 4

Mantra 5

Mantra 6

Mantra 7

Mantra 8

Mantra 9

Mantra 10

Frequently Asked Questions

Here Agni is ‘Mitra-like’ because he creates harmony among people—encouraging trust, right listening, and cooperation in ritual and community life.

It is a poetic image of Agni searching hidden places to recover the luminous ‘cows’ (rays/wealth). Ritually it suggests uncovering blessings; inwardly it suggests finding lost clarity within.

It points to awakened discernment (citti) grounded in the Waters—symbols of depth, flow, and life-support—where wise people establish a stable, shared harmony.
