Niyam matlab khud ko rokna. Apni indriyon ko control mein rakhna. Tyag matlab darr, bharam, dukh aur gusse ko chhodna. Sachchi taakat yeh hai ki koi tumhe rule na kare. Jo khud se chamak raha hai, usme yeh duniya kaat do. Shiv aur Shakti is duniya ko pakde hain, usse alag kar do. Yeh sanyasi ki paani ki potli hai, jo sirf dekhne ka kaam hai. Ho na ho, dono ko jala do. Aakash ko apna aadhaar bana lo. Shiv, jo chautha hai, woh janeu hai. Brahman hi tumhari jhalar hai. Chetna hi tumhari lathi hai, usey phenk do. Jo paani ki potli hai, woh hamesha dekhti hai. Karma ko jad se ukhadna, yeh tumhara kapda hai. Maya, maal aur ahankaar ko jala do. Shamshan mein, jahan shareer jalta hai, wahan tum bhi ho. Tino gunon se pare jaan-na, yeh niyam hai. Bhram door karo. Dil ki ichcha aur vrittiyon ko jala do. Langot matlab pakka aur kadak raho. Faaton aur khaal mein raho. Jo mantra hai, woh anahat hai. Bina kisi karam ke, bas wahi kaam karo. Moksh apni aukaad mein rehna hai, jo bhi mann kare. Yeh hi bada Brahman hai. Jaise doobte samay, kashti pe sawaar ho. Brahmacharya ki shaanti ikattha karo. Ashram mein padh ke, sab chhod do. Ant mein, Brahman ki shakal mein reh jaana. Hamesha sab shak ko khatam karna.
Niyama is the restraint of one’s own self and senses. Renunciation is the abandonment of fear, delusion, grief, and anger. (There is) the pure power of being unruled (by anything). In the self-luminous reality of Brahman, cutting off the phenomenal world, enclosed by Śiva and Śakti. And the water-pot (kamaṇḍalu) is the ‘leaf-eyed’ (patrākṣa) and the eye itself; (it is) the burning of being and non-being. Bearing the support of space. The sacred thread is Śiva, the fourth (turīya). The topknot is made of That. The staff, cast away, is of consciousness. The continuous eye is the water-pot. The cloak is the uprooting of karma. The burning of māyā, possessiveness, and egoism. In the cremation-ground, with an unstruck (anāhata) body. The observance (samaya) is inquiry into the nature beyond the three guṇas. The removal of error. The burning of the mental modifications beginning with desire. The loincloth is hardness and firmness. Dwelling in rags and skin. The mantra is the unstruck (anāhata). Cherished by non-action alone. Liberation is one’s own nature—free conduct according to one’s will—(which is) the supreme Brahman. Conduct like a raft. Gathering the peace of brahmacarya. Having studied in the brahmacarya-āśrama, (one undertakes) saṃnyāsa as the renunciation of all consciousness-identifications. In the end, (abiding in) Brahman as the undivided form. Ever the destruction of all doubts.
