Sukta 9.80
Traditionally attributed to seers of the Soma Pavamāna corpus.
Soma Pavamāna (Soma in the act of purification), with explicit orientation 'for Indra' (इन्द्राय).
Likely Triṣṭubh (common in RV 9; requires full metrical count confirmation).
Is mantra mein Soma ki tareef hai jab wo daba ke nikala jata hai. Soma ko saaf kiya jata hai aur wo hazaron dhaaron mein behta hai. Ye Soma Indra ko khush karne ke liye banaya jata hai. Soma ek bull jaisa hai jo khushi deta hai. Wo buri taqaton ko bhaga deta hai. Soma naam aur taqat laata hai. Wo paani mein lehr jaisa badhta hai aur devtaon tak pahunchta hai.
Mantra 2
Som, tu taakat wala hai aur jeetne wala hai. Chamak wali taakein tujhe pukarti hain. Tu chamak ke saath us sthaan par chadhta hai jo lohe se bana hai. Jo log dete hain unki umar badha. Tu Indra ke liye bada naam aur taakat ban. Tu ek bail ki tarah behta hai jo khushi deta hai.
Mantra 3
Indra ke pet mein sabse zyada khushi wala Som behta hai. Woh taakat pehanta hai aur accha hai. Woh andar ki taraf sab duniya mein fail jata hai. Woh khelta hai aur peela ghoda daudta hai. Yeh bail ki tarah behta hai.
Mantra 4
Log tumhe nikalte hain, tum jaise shahad ho, devta ke liye.
Haath tumhe nikalte hain, tum mein shahad hai. Tum ek bail ho jo bahut taakatwala hai. Soma, tum Indra ko khush kar rahe ho. Devta ke log bhi khush ho rahe hain. Tum saaf ho ke beh rahe ho, jaise nadi mein lehar aati hai.
The hymn praises Soma in his purified, flowing form (Soma Pavamāna), with a clear intention that his clarified power especially exhilarates Indra while also reaching all the gods.
It describes the Soma juice as it pours in many rivulets during pressing and purification—an image of abundant, unstoppable flow and overflowing potency in the ritual.
They point to the concrete Soma-pressing: stones press out the juice, and the officiants’ hands (ten fingers) draw and guide it into purification, showing how the rite produces the divine drink.
