Sukta 10.109
Unknown/unspecified in input (traditional Anukramaṇī assigns RV 10.109 to a specific seer; not provided here)
Āpaḥ (Waters) / Ṛta; with Mātariśvan invoked
Triṣṭubh (probable for RV 10.109)
Is mantra mein ek bada paap baat ki gayi hai jo sacred order ke khilaaf hota hai. Pehle Waters batate hain ki galti kya hai aur uska ilaaj kya hai. Jo cheez galat li gayi thi, use wapas karna zaruri hai. Divine Waters se saaf hona hota hai. Phir devtaon ke saath phir se milna hota hai. Is tarah se Rta ke saath phir se sahi jagah milti hai.
Mantra 1
Pehle unhone boli paap ke baare mein jo shabd ke khilaf tha. Samundar, paani, aur Matarishvan, yeh sab the. Taqat wale, tej tapasya, aur sukh dene wale, yeh devi paani sach ke saath chalte hain, kyunki yeh pehle paida hue the.
Mantra 2
Saat rishi bhi the jo tapasya mein baith the. Brahman ki patni bahut taqatwar hoti hai jab use sahi se liya jata hai. Woh upar aasmaan mein bada bhari phal rakhti hai.
Mantra 5
Devtaon ne use wapas diya, aur insaanon ne bhi. Raja log sachche reh ke us brahman ki patni ko wapas laaye. Yeh sahi kaam tha, dharam ke hisaab se.
Mantra 7
Brahman ki patni wapas dekar woh log devtaon ke saath saaf nikle. Dharti ki taakat baant ke woh us bade devta ke paas jaate hain jo sabko aage le chalta hai.
It focuses on a serious sacred fault (brahma-kilbiṣa) and explains how Ṛta is restored through truth, purification by the divine Waters (Āpaḥ), and especially by giving back what was wrongly taken.
In the Veda, Waters are divine purifiers and carriers of Ṛta. Here they represent the power that washes away guilt and re-establishes right order when one makes proper restitution.
It means “giving back again”—restitution. The hymn presents restitution as the decisive act that removes the fault and allows one to return to worship and harmony with the gods.
