Adhyaya 23 — Ashvatara’s Vow for Madalasa and the Bestowal of Musical Science by Sarasvati
करोत्यात्महितं कुर्वन् विश्वासञ्च महाजने ।
देवताः पितरो विप्रा मित्रार्थिविकलादयः ॥
karoty ātma-hitaṃ kurvan viśvāsaṃ ca mahā-jane | devatāḥ pitaro viprā mitra-arthi-vikalādayaḥ ||
ऐसा आचरण करके वह अपना हित साधता है और महापुरुषों में विश्वास प्राप्त करता है। देवता, पितर, ब्राह्मण, मित्र, याचक, पीड़ित और अन्य लोग उसी की ओर आशा से देखते हैं।

Virtue is portrayed as simultaneously self-benefiting and society-sustaining: it generates credibility and becomes a refuge for those who seek help or are suffering.
Not pancalakṣaṇa proper; it is dharma-nīti discourse embedded in an ākhyāna.
‘Trust among the great’ can be read as inner alignment with higher faculties (buddhi/sattva), by which one becomes ‘approachable’ to the divine and ancestral currents.
