यो यस्य हीनो वर्णेन स चाष्टादशमो नरः । सर्वासां प्रकृतीनां च उत्तमा मध्यमाः समाः
yo yasya hīno varṇena sa cāṣṭādaśamo naraḥ | sarvāsāṃ prakṛtīnāṃ ca uttamā madhyamāḥ samāḥ
Celui qui, par le varṇa, est inférieur à un autre est compté comme la dix-huitième personne (dans ce schéma) ; et, parmi toutes les natures et groupements, « l’excellent » et « le moyen » sont tenus pour comparables dans cette classification.
