Skanda Purana — Nagara Khanda, Shloka 13

तस्माद्गङ्गापरित्यागं सन्ध्यायाश्च विशेषतः । यावन्न कुरुषे देव तावत्तुष्टिर्न मे भवेत्

tasmādgaṅgāparityāgaṃ sandhyāyāśca viśeṣataḥ | yāvanna kuruṣe deva tāvattuṣṭirna me bhavet

Ainsi donc, ô Dieu, tant que tu n’auras pas renoncé à Gaṅgā—et plus encore à Sandhyā—jusqu’alors je ne connaîtrai point la satisfaction.

Pārvatī (Devī)

Tirtha: Gaṅgā; Sandhyā (junction-time)

Type: river

Listener: Deva (Śiva)

Scene: Devī, resolute, declares she will not be pleased unless Śiva renounces Gaṅgā and especially Sandhyā; Śiva appears constrained—caught between dharma and domestic discord; a faint vision of Gaṅgā’s flowing form and twilight Sandhyā frames the tension.

FAQs

The verse dramatizes how attachment and jealousy can distort perception of sacred practices, prompting a deeper discernment of dharma.

Gaṅgā is invoked as a sacred entity associated with tīrthas broadly; no single pilgrimage location is specified in this line.

No recommended prescription; it is a demand to abandon sacred associations (Gaṅgā, Sandhyā), presented as part of the narrative conflict.
