Type: river
Listener: Yudhiṣṭhira
Scene: Mārkaṇḍeya leans forward to begin the formal exposition; the king sits steady, focused; the atmosphere becomes solemn as a ‘mahātmyā’ recitation begins.
Śravaṇa (devout listening) to tīrtha-māhātmya is itself a dharmic practice that prepares the mind for sacred knowledge and merit.
Narmadā is the subject of the forthcoming māhātmya exposition.
An inner discipline is prescribed: attentive, one-pointed listening to the sacred account.
