It teaches upacāra-bhakti—devotional worship expressed through respectful hospitality to Śiva and Devī—training the devotee’s mind in reverence, purity, and loving surrender to Pati (the Lord) along with His Śakti.
These offerings are standard services (upacāras) in saguna worship, where the devotee honors Shiva’s accessible form—often the Liṅga—while remembering that the same Lord transcends form as nirguṇa; the external ritual supports inner recollection.
Perform pūjā with offerings—food (naivedya), clothing, fragrance, and flowers—while mentally visualizing Śiva-Śakti united and reciting a Shiva mantra (such as the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as inner worship.
