Sukta 9.33
Soma-Pavamāna seer tradition (exact rishi uncertain in provided input).
Soma Pavamāna (plural streams).
Likely Gāyatrī or Triṣṭubh depending on hymn structure; needs verification from full sukta metrical pattern.
This short Pavamāna hymn praises Soma in his many flowing streams as he is purified and set in motion like the waves of water, forcefully pressing forward like bulls. It links the outward ritual of filtration and libation with inner illumination—Soma’s ‘tawny’ energy, the rising of inspired speech, and the bestowal of vast, fourfold abundance.
Mantra 1
Forth move the Soma-powers, clear in discernment, like waves of the waters; like great bulls they press through the forests of our nature.
Mantra 2
Toward the tubs the tawny-bright streams have poured, in the current of Ṛta; they drip the plenitude of force rich with rays of knowledge.
Mantra 3
Pressed out, the Soma-streams flow to Indra and Vāyu, to Varuṇa and the Maruts; they flow also to Viṣṇu—powers of right force, vastness, and ordered truth within us.
Mantra 4
Three utterances rise up; the Rays low like milch-cows; and the tawny one moves on, crying out—Soma’s delight-force announcing its victorious passage.
Mantra 5
The sacred utterances press toward him in praise; the mighty Mothers of Ṛta cleanse and polish the Child of Heaven.
Mantra 6
O Soma, from every side purify yourself toward us, bringing the four oceans of spiritual abundance—thousand-fold in plenitude.
It praises Soma as he is purified and made ready for offering, describing him as wave-like streams that bring clarity, inspired speech, and abundant prosperity.
Waves express Soma’s flowing purification, while bulls express his force—his ability to break through obstacles and energize the ritual and the worshipper’s inner life.
It is a poetic way of asking for vast, complete abundance from every direction—material and spiritual plenitude gathered into a single, overflowing gift.
