Sukta 47

Mantra 1

मरुत्वाँ इन्द्र वृषभो रणाय पिबा सोममनुष्वधं मदाय । आ सिञ्चस्व जठरे मध्व ऊर्मिं त्वं राजासि प्रदिवः सुतानाम् ॥

O Indra with the Maruts, Bull of the battle, drink the Soma according to thy delight for ecstasy. Pour into thy belly the wave of honeyed sweetness; thou art king of the pressed draughts in the forward heaven.

Mantra 2

सजोषा इन्द्र सगणो मरुद्भिः सोमं पिब वृत्रहा शूर विद्वान् । जहि शत्रूँरप मृधो नुदस्वाथाभयं कृणुहि विश्वतो नः ॥

In one delight with the Maruts, in one company, drink the Soma, O slayer of Vṛtra, O hero who knows. Smite the enemies, drive away the assaults; then make for us fearlessness from every side.

Mantra 3

उत ऋतुभिॠतुपाः पाहि सोममिन्द्र देवेभिः सखिभिः सुतं नः । याँ आभजो मरुतो ये त्वान्वहन्वृत्रमदधुस्तुभ्यमोजः ॥

And with the seasons—O guardian of the right times—protect our pressed Soma, O Indra, together with the god-powers who are thy friends; those Maruts whom thou didst apportion to thyself, who followed thee and smote Vṛtra, they set in thee the force of victory.

Mantra 4

ये त्वाहिहत्ये मघवन्नवर्धन्ये शाम्बरे हरिवो ये गविष्टौ । ये त्वा नूनमनुमदन्ति विप्राः पिबेन्द्र सोमं सगणो मरुद्भिः ॥

They who increased thee, O bountiful one, in the slaying of the Serpent, they in the Shambara battle, O lord of the tawny steeds, they in the seeking of the Light-cows; they who now acclaim thee, the seers—drink, O Indra, the Soma together with the host of the Maruts.

Mantra 5

मरुत्वन्तं वृषभं वावृधानमकवारिं दिव्यं शासमिन्द्रम् । विश्वासाहमवसे नूतनायोग्रं सहोदामिह तं हुवेम ॥

We call here for our new helping the bull Indra, companioned by the Maruts, ever growing; the divine ruler who is no miser, the all-overcoming, the fierce giver of force—him we invoke.
