वानरमुख्य-परिचयः (Catalogue of Principal Vānara Leaders)
तदपारमसंख्ख्येयंवानराणांमहद्बलं ।अलोक्यरावणोराजापरिपप्रच्छसारणम् ।।।।
tad apāram asaṅkhyeyaṁ vānarāṇāṁ mahad balam |
alokya rāvaṇo rājā paripapraccha sāraṇam ||6.26.7||
Seeing that vast Vanara force—boundless and impossible to count—King Rāvaṇa questioned Sāraṇa further.
Ravana seeing the innumerable army force of monkeys which was impossible to count again enquired looking at Saarana.
Even amid adharma-driven aims, prudent inquiry is a duty of rulership; dharma values clear seeing and truthful assessment over delusion and bravado.
After witnessing the immense Vanara host, Rāvaṇa turns to Sāraṇa to identify leaders and gauge the threat.
Vicāra (deliberation) and strategic inquiry—an element of rāja-dharma—though in Rāvaṇa it is tensioned against arrogance and anger.
