सीतासान्त्वनम् / Hanuman Consoles Sita with the News of Victory

एवमुक्तस्तुवैदेह्याप्रत्युवाचप्लवङ्गमः ।।6.116.21।।प्रगृहीताञ्जलिर्हर्षासतीतायाःप्रमुखेस्थितः ।

bhartuḥ priyahite yukte bhartur vijayakāṅkṣiṇaḥ | snigdham evaṃvidhaṃ vākyaṃ tvam evārhasy anindite ||

O blameless one, you alone are worthy to speak such affectionate words—seeking what is dear and beneficial for your husband, and longing for his victory.

Spoken in that way by Vaidehi, Hanuman stood with folded palms in front of Sita and replied in delight.

H
Hanumān
S
Sītā
R
Rāma (as bhartā)

Dharma is framed as loyal commitment to the spouse’s welfare (priya-hita) and righteous hope for victory; speech aligned with that welfare is praised as ethically ideal.

Hanumān responds to Sītā’s praise by affirming her purity and the appropriateness of her words for Rāma’s welfare.

Sītā’s anindyatā (irreproachability) and pativratā-dharma—single-minded concern for her husband’s good.
