सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः — हनुमद्वृत्तान्तकथनम्, सीताभिज्ञान-प्रदानम्, लङ्कादाह-वर्णनम्
महतापि महाबाहुः प्रत्ययेन महाबलः।।।।प्रेषितो रावणेनैव सह वीरैर्मदोत्कटैः।
mahatāpi mahābāhuḥ pratyayena mahābalaḥ | preṣito rāvaṇenaiva saha vīrair madotkaṭaiḥ ||
Then the mighty long-armed one, relying on great confidence, was dispatched by Rāvaṇa himself, accompanied by warriors swollen with pride.
"Thinking that Indrajit will surely kill me, the strong-armed mighty Ravana again sent intoxicated demon warriors.
The verse warns against mada (arrogant pride): power joined with conceit becomes ethically unstable and leads to destructive choices.
Rāvaṇa, trusting his champion, sends him with other fierce warriors to subdue Hanumān.
On the antagonist side, it emphasizes audacity mixed with pride; implicitly, it prepares the contrast with Hanumān’s disciplined strength in service of dharma.
