Shloka 5.38.59
अभिज्ञानप्रदानम् — The Token of Recognition (Chūḍāmaṇi) and the Crow Episode Recalled
आनुकूल्येन धर्मात्मा त्यक्त्वा सुखमनुत्तमम्।अनुगच्छति काकुत्स्थं भ्रातरं पालयन्वने।।5.38.59।।
ānukūlyēna dharmātmā tyaktvā sukhamanuttamam | anugacchati kākutsthaṃ bhrātaraṃ pālayanvane ||
That righteous-souled one, having forsaken pleasures beyond compare, follows his brother, the scion of Kakutstha, serving him faithfully in the forest.
"Great, righteous Lakshmana had given up his pleasures and followed his brother Rama in his favour into the forest to be able to serve him.
Lakshmana is described as 'Dharmatma' (righteous-souled) because he upheld the Dharma of service and brotherhood by abandoning royal luxuries to accompany Rama into the forest.
'Anukulyena' implies acting in total agreeableness or favor. It signifies that Lakshmana's service was not a burden but a voluntary, faithful dedication to his brother's well-being.
