काकुत्स्थस्य शोकनिग्रहः—सुग्रीवसान्त्वनम् (Rama’s Grief Restrained—Sugriva’s Consolation)
न जाने निलयं तस्य सर्वथा पापरक्षसः।सामर्थ्यं विक्रमं वापि दौष्कुलेयस्य वा कुलम्।।
na jāne nilayaṃ tasya sarvathā pāparakṣasaḥ | sāmarthyaṃ vikramaṃ vāpi dauṣkuleyasya vā kulam ||
I do not know at all that sinful rākṣasa’s abode—nor his power, nor his prowess, nor even the lineage he claims, born as he is of a disgraceful stock.
'I do not have any knowledge of this sinful demon's dwelling , his capability, his valour or his clan or his despicable lineage.
Satya (truthfulness) as dharma: Rāma openly admits what he does not know, grounding the alliance in honesty rather than pretence.
Rāma clarifies the uncertainty: he lacks concrete intelligence about the enemy’s location and capabilities, making Sugrīva’s search-effort essential.
Rāma’s truthfulness and strategic humility—acknowledging limits to seek effective help.
