Shloka 4.58.3

सम्पातिवाक्यम् (Sampāti’s Counsel and the Revelation of Laṅkā)

वृद्धभावादपक्षत्वाच्छृण्वंस्तदपि मर्षये।न हि मे शक्तिरस्त्यद्य भ्रातुर्वैरविमोक्षणे।।4.58.3।।

vṛddhabhāvādapakṣatvācchṛṇvaṃstadapi marṣaye | na hi me śaktirastyadya bhrāturvairavimokṣaṇe ||

Due to old age and being wingless, I must tolerate this news even after hearing it. Indeed, I do not possess the strength today to avenge the hostility against my brother.

'Even after I have heard this, I cannot avenge my brother's death as I am old, I have no wings, and I have no energy enough (to fight).

S
Sampati
J
Jatayu

Sampati expresses his inability to act due to physical limitations caused by old age (vṛddhabhāvāt) and the loss of his wings (apakṣatvāt), which deprives him of the necessary strength.

The verse refers to the killing of Sampati's brother, Jatayu, by Ravana. Sampati is lamenting that he cannot avenge this injustice (vaira-vimokṣaṇe) due to his physical condition.
