अङ्गद-उपदेशः — Hanuman’s Counsel to Angada on Succession and Strategy
तेषु सर्वेषु भिन्नेषु ततोऽभीषयदङ्गदम्।भीषणैर्भहुभिर्वाक्यै: कोपोपायसमन्वितैः।।।।
teṣu sarveṣu bhinneṣu tato 'bhīṣayad aṅgadam | bhīṣaṇair bahubhir vākyaiḥ kopopāya-samanvitaiḥ ||
When discord had arisen among all the vānaras, then Hanumān intimidated Aṅgada with many fearsome words—charged with anger, yet calculated as a means to an end.
When there were differences among the monkeys over the issue, Hanuman intimidated Angada with frightening words expressing his anger, using skilful arguments:
The verse shows a tension within dharma: maintaining unity and accomplishing the righteous mission can sometimes involve stern speech (upāya), but it remains ethically bounded by the higher goal—service to Rāma and protection of the community from collapse into factionalism.
Satya here is not merely gentle speech but commitment to the true objective—finding Sītā and fulfilling the vow to Rāma. Hanumān’s forceful words function as a corrective to restore alignment with that truth when disagreement threatens the mission.
