मैत्रीप्रतिष्ठा (Rama–Sugriva Alliance and Fire-Rite of Friendship)
अमोघास्सूर्यसङ्काशा ममैते निशिताश्शराः4.5.27।।तस्मिन्वालिनि दुर्वृत्ते निपतिष्यन्ति वेगिताः।कङ्कपत्रप्रतिच्छन्ना महेन्द्राशनिसन्निभाः4.5.28।।तीक्ष्णाग्रा ऋजुपर्वाणस्सरोषा भुजगा इव।
tam adya vālinaṃ paśya tīkṣṇair āśīviṣopamaiḥ | śarair vinihataṃ bhūmau vikīrṇam iva parvatam ||4.5.29||
See Vālin today—felled by sharp arrows like venomous serpents—lying upon the earth, shattered like a mountain.
'These arrows covered with kanka feathers, sharp and straight at the tip, comparable to great Indra's thunderbolt are (burning bright) like the sun. Looking like angry serpents, they will unfailingly strike at the miscreant Vali soon.
Satya as a vow of protection: Rāma’s promise functions as moral assurance—fear is removed through truthful commitment to uphold justice.
Rāma concludes his reassurance by vividly predicting Vālin’s fall, strengthening Sugrīva’s confidence in the alliance.
Rāma’s reliability and protective courage—his word is presented as certain and action-oriented.
