O Blessed Lord, O stainless One—become a son to Aditi and to me. O slayer of the Asuras, become the younger brother of Śakra (Indra); you are worthy to aid the gods who are afflicted with sorrow.

"O Sinless Lord, Be born son to Aditi and to me, O Destroyer of asuras, be the younger brother to Indra. You can help these sorrowstricken devatas.

Dharma demands protection of the afflicted righteous: the divine is invoked to restore balance when adharma overwhelms the devas.

Kāśyapa specifies the boon: Viṣṇu should incarnate as Aditi’s son (Vāmana) and assist Indra and the sorrowing gods against the Asuras.

Compassionate guardianship: the commitment to relieve suffering and re-establish rightful order.
