Shloka 1.17.3
सप्तदशः सर्गः — देवसंवादः तथा वानर-ऋक्ष-उत्पत्तिः (Divine Council and the Generation of Vanara Allies)
मायाविदश्च शूरांश्च वायुवेगसमाञ्जवे।नयज्ञान्बुद्धिसम्पन्नान्विष्णुतुल्यपराक्रमान्।।।।असंहार्यानुपायज्ञान् दिव्यसंहननान्वितान्।सर्वास्त्रगुणसम्पन्नानमृतप्राशनानिव।।।।अप्सरस्सु च मुख्यासु गन्धर्वाणां तनूषु च ।सृजध्वं हरिरूपेण पुत्रांस्तुल्यपराक्रमान्।।।।
māyāvidaś ca śūrāṃś ca vāyuvegasamāñ jave | nayajñān buddhisampannān viṣṇutulyaparākramān ||
asaṃhāryān upāyajñān divyasaṃhananānvitān | sarvāstraguṇasampannān amṛtaprāśanān iva ||
apsarassu ca mukhyāsu gandharvāṇāṃ tanūṣu ca | sṛjadhvaṃ harirūpeṇa putrāṃs tulyaparākramān ||
“Create, in monkey form, sons of equal prowess—skilled in stratagems, brave, swift as the wind; wise in policy and endowed with intelligence; equal to Viṣṇu in valor; unwavering in effort; versed in the means of success; possessed of divine physiques; accomplished in the arts of weapons, as if nourished on amṛta. Let them be born from the bodies of the foremost apsarases and gandharva-women.”
Incarnate as monkeys in the womb of chiefs of apsarasas and gandharvas. Create sons who have the knowledge of deceitful tricks, who are brave, who match wind in speed, who are endowed with intellect and state-craft, who are determined, who are knowledgeable in various means of achieving victory, who are supernatural bodies, who possess capability of employing and resisting weapons, who resemble those who subsist on amrita (immortals) and are equal (to Visnu) in prowess.
Dharma is protected by aligning extraordinary abilities with a righteous mission: intelligence, strategy, and strength are explicitly commissioned for the restoration of moral order, not personal domination.
Brahmā instructs divine beings to generate powerful allies in monkey form—future vānaras—equipped with speed, intellect, strategy, and martial excellence to assist Rāma.
Practical wisdom joined to courage: the ideal helper is both brave and discerning (buddhi + naya), using power ethically and effectively.
