Shloka 55

अध्याय ९ — कर्णस्य प्रहारः, योधयुग्मनियोजनम्, शैनेय-कैकेययोर्युद्धविन्यासः

ध्रुवं तस्य धनुश्छिन्न॑ रथो वापि महीं गत: । अस्त्राणि वा प्रणष्टानि यथा शंससि मे हतम्‌,निश्चय ही उसका धनुष कट गया होगा या रथ धरतीमें धँस गया होगा अथवा उसके अस्त्र नष्ट हो गये होंगे, तभी जैसा कि तुम मुझे बता रहे हो, वह मारा गया होगा

vaiśampāyana uvāca | dhruvaṃ tasya dhanuś chinnaṃ ratho vāpi mahīṃ gataḥ | astrāṇi vā praṇaṣṭāni yathā śaṃsasi me hatam |

Vaiśampāyana said: “Surely his bow must have been cut, or his chariot sunk into the earth, or else his weapons were lost. Only under such disabling misfortune, as you report to me, could he have been slain.”
