कर्ण ससूतं सरथं सकेतु- मदृश्यमण्जोगतिभश्ि: प्रचक्रे । तदनन्तर सवारोंसहित हजारों घोड़ों और सहस््रों पैदल वीरोंको मारकर रथ, सारथि और ध्वजसहित कर्णको भी शीघ्रगामी बाणोंद्वारा ढककर अदृश्य कर दिया ।। अथाक्रोशन् कुरवो वध्यमाना धनंजयेनाधिरथिं समन्तात्

karṇaṃ sasūtaṃ sarathaṃ saketuṃ adṛśyam añjogatibhiḥ pracakre |
tad-anantaraṃ savāroṃsahitaṃ sahasrāṇi aśvān sahasrāṇi ca padātivīrān hatvā ratha-sārathi-dhvajasahitaṃ karṇam api śīghragāmibhir bāṇair dhakvā adṛśyaṃ cakāra ||
athākrośan kuravo vadhyamānā dhanañjayenādhirathiṃ samantāt ||
Sañjaya said: Arjuna so covered Karṇa—together with his charioteer, chariot, and banner—with swift-flying arrows that he made him vanish from sight. Before that, he struck down thousands of horsemen with their mounts and thousands of foot-soldiers. As Karṇa’s forces were being cut down on every side by Dhanañjaya, the Kauravas cried out in distress. The scene underscores the grim ethics of battlefield duty: prowess is exercised without hesitation, yet the suffering of the many becomes the immediate moral weight of war.
