Karṇa’s Breach of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Battle-Line
rāmaḥ kṛtasvastyayanaḥ prayayau dānavān prati | abravīd devaśatrūṃs tān mahādarpabalānvitān |
Rama (Paraśurāma), having duly performed auspicious rites and benedictory recitations, set out to confront the Dānavas. Then he addressed those enemies of the gods—swollen with great pride and upheld by formidable strength—speaking to them directly, as one who maintains dharma by restraining arrogant power.
Power should be tempered by righteousness: before engaging in conflict, one should ground oneself in auspicious discipline and then confront prideful aggression firmly, aiming to restore order rather than to indulge anger.
Paraśurāma performs auspicious rites (svastyayana) and then advances to face the Dānavas, addressing them as formidable enemies of the gods who are inflated with pride and strength.
