Mantras

Mantra 1

सांमनस्यम्। सहृदयं सांमनस्यमविद्वेषं कृणोमि वः । अन्यो अन्यमभि हर्यत वत्सं जातमिवाघ्न्या

Concord I bring: heart-unity, mind-unity, freedom from hatred I establish among you. Let each be kindly eager toward the other, as the inviolable cow toward her new-born calf.

Mantra 2

अनुव्रतः पितुः पुत्रो मात्रा भवतु संमनाः । जाया पत्ये मधुमतीं वाचं वदतु शन्तिवाम्

Let the son be obedient to the father, and of one mind with the mother. Let the wife unto the husband speak speech that is honey-sweet, speech that bringeth peace.

Mantra 3

मा भ्राता भ्रातरं द्विक्षन्मा स्वसारमुत स्वसा । सम्यञ्चः सव्रता भूत्वा वाचं वदत भद्रया

Let not brother hate brother, nor sister sister. Become ye united, of one observance; with auspicious speech speak ye forth.

Mantra 4

येन देवा न वियन्ति नो च विद्विषते मिथः । तत् कृण्मो ब्रह्म वो गृहे संज्ञानं पुरुषेभ्यः

That whereby the Gods go not asunder, nor hate one another—this same do we establish as holy spell within your house: mutual understanding for the folk.

Mantra 5

ज्यायस्वन्तश्चित्तिनो मा वि यौष्ट संराधयन्तः सधुराश्चरन्तः । अन्यो अन्यस्मै वल्गु वदन्त एत सध्रीचीनान् वः संमनसस्कृणोमि

Let not the overbearing, the plotters, go ye asunder—those who, moving in one band, seek to win men over; who, one to another, speak fair-sounding words: thus do I make you concordant, of one mind.

Mantra 6

समानी प्रपा सह वोऽन्नभागः समाने योक्त्रे सह वो युनज्मि । सम्यञ्चोऽग्निं सपर्यतारा नाभिमिवाभितः

Common be the drinking-place; together be your share of food: in one and the same yoke do I yoke you together. Turned all one way, serve ye Agni, as spokes about the nave, on every side.

Mantra 7

सध्रीचीनान् वः संमनसस्कृणोम्येकश्नुष्टीन्त्संवननेन सर्वान्। देवा इवामृतं रक्षमाणाः सायंप्रातः सौमनसो वो अस्तु

Concordant do I make you, of one mind—all of you, of one assent, by the power of conciliation; like the Gods guarding immortality: evening and morning may good-mindedness be yours.
