Pretas (collective)
Tirtha: Hareḥ-gṛha (Vaiṣṇava-kṣetra) in Prabhāsa tradition
Type: kshetra
Listener: The addressed lord/benefactor (contextually the brāhmaṇa as intended doer, though verse addresses ‘tvam’)
Scene: Pretas, now more hopeful, instruct the brāhmaṇa to go to a Vaiṣṇava kṣetra and perform śrāddha with their names and gotras; a vision of Hari’s shrine appears as a luminous destination.
Proper śrāddha, done with identity (name and gotra) and in a sanctified locale, is portrayed as a powerful means for the departed to gain mokṣa.
A ‘Vaiṣṇava kṣetra’ is explicitly praised; within this chapter it is situated in the Prabhāsa Māhātmya context.
Perform śrāddha for the pretas at a Vaiṣṇava sacred place, invoking their names and gotras.
