The Appearance of Parasurama on the Return from Mithila
rājño daśarathasyaitac chrutvā vākyaṃ mahānṛṣiḥ | uvāca madhurāṃ vāṇīṃ śrūyatām asya yat phalam ||
The dreadful cries from the mouths of birds foretell an event of celestial nature likely to befall but the movements other of deer indicate restoration of peace. Therefore do not grieve.
Satya with śānti (truth spoken calmly): the sage prepares to disclose consequences without agitation, modeling truthful counsel delivered with restraint.
During the return journey, after Daśaratha reacts to unsettling signs, Vasiṣṭha responds and is about to interpret what will follow.
Vasiṣṭha’s composed guidance—authoritative yet gentle speech suited to a teacher of dharma.
