Varaha Purana 49.26 — Adhyaya 49, Shloka 26

The Padmanābha Dvādaśī Observance, with the Eulogy of Lamp-Offering Merit

कृते संवत्सरे भक्तिं हरेः कृत्वा विचक्षणः । संवत्सरार्धं त्रेतायां सममेतन्न संशयः ॥ ४९.२६ ॥

kṛte saṃvatsare bhaktiṃ hareḥ kṛtvā vicakṣaṇaḥ | saṃvatsarārdhaṃ tretāyāṃ samam etan na saṃśayaḥ || 49.26 ||

明慧之人若在克利多(Kṛta)时代修持对哈利的虔敬一年,其所得果报等同——毫无疑问——于在特雷塔(Tretā)时代修持半年。

FAQs

It reflects a common Purāṇic and Dharma-śāstric motif: the comparative potency of spiritual practice across the yugas, illustrating how later ages are often portrayed as requiring different durations or intensities of practice to reach comparable outcomes.

No geographic location is named in this verse; the focus is temporal (Kṛta and Tretā yugas) rather than spatial.

The verse promotes disciplined devotion (bhakti) and discernment (vicakṣaṇa) by emphasizing sustained practice and framing it within a yuga-based ethical-temporal model of effort and result.
