Vali’s Final Counsel and the Succession Charge
yathā hi tvaṃ mahābāho lālitaḥ satataṃ mayā | na tathā vartamānaṃ tvāṃ sugrīvo bahumaṃsyate ||
'O long-armed one! you have always been affectionately brought up by me. Sugriva may not rear you that way.
Dharma includes realism and self-protection: one should not assume others will show the same affection; one must act prudently within new power structures.
Vali, anticipating the political shift after his death, cautions Angada that Sugriva may not treat him with the same paternal tenderness.
Prudence (viveka): understanding changing relationships and preparing for life under a new ruler.
