Withdrawal of the Coronation: Rama’s Counsel to Lakshmana
तस्याश्शङ्कामयं दुःखं मुहूर्तमपि नोत्सहे।मनसि प्रतिसंजातं सौमित्रेऽहमुपेक्षितुम्।।।।
tasyāḥ śaṅkā-mayaṃ duḥkhaṃ muhūrtam api notsahe | manasi pratisaṃjātaṃ saumitre ’ham upekṣitum ||
苏密特罗啊,我实在不能——哪怕片刻——对她心中因疑而生的痛苦置之不理。
Restrain your anger and sorrow. Dismiss this humiliation (from the mind). Achieve great happiness through fortitude. Remove whatever preparations have been made for the purpose of (my) consecration today, and act quickly so that there is no obstacle.
Dharma is compassionate regard: even when wronged, one should not disregard another’s inner suffering.
Rāma explains to Lakṣmaṇa why Kaikeyī’s anxious suspicion matters to him and must be addressed.
Dayā (compassion) and absence of bitterness—Rāma refuses to treat Kaikeyī’s distress as negligible.
