The Consecration of Rama’s Sandals and Bharata’s Trusteeship at Nandigrama
evaṃ tu vilapan dīno bharataḥ sa mahāyaśāḥ | nandigrāme 'karod rājyaṃ duḥkhito mantribhiḥ saha ||
Thus lamenting in desolation and grief, the illustrious Bharata lived in Nandigrama along with his counsellors and started ruling the kingdom.
Dharma can demand painful duty: Bharata rules not for pleasure but to prevent disorder, maintaining the kingdom while personally living in sorrow and restraint.
After his declarations, Bharata relocates to Nandigrāma and continues administration with ministers, awaiting Rama’s return.
Duty under suffering: he performs rajadharma while emotionally burdened, showing endurance and discipline.
